Senate investigation finds Tinder left most scam-detection models unchanged for years

Senate investigation finds Tinder left most scam-detection models unchanged for years Image: Primary
Sen. Maggie Hassan released an investigation Tuesday finding that Tinder had not updated most AI models used to detect scammers and other bad actors for years as of the second half of 2025. Data Match Group gave the committee showed views of the median scammer's Tinder profile globally increased by more than 700 percent between May 2024 and December 2025. Match disputed the report's characterization of its investment and completed work. The company said mandatory Face Check verification reduced U.S. Tinder interactions with spam, bots and scammers by more than 70 percent within a month of nationwide deployment, with the reduction sustained for at least seven more months. A video demonstrated that Face Check could be tricked, a concern Tinder acknowledged.
