Microsoft links Atlanta and Wisconsin sites for shared AI training

Microsoft says it brought its Atlanta Fairwater data center online in October and connected it to its Wisconsin site through dedicated fiber, allowing the facilities to run shared AI training workloads. GCN reported that the network supports OpenAI, Microsoft's AI Superintelligence Team and Copilot workloads. The facilities use Nvidia GB200 NVL72 systems, and closed-loop liquid cooling serves over 90% of their compute capacity. Microsoft says the arrangement can shorten training from months to weeks, but it has not published a benchmark supporting its separate claim of ten times the performance of the world's fastest supercomputer.
