Anthropic reports falling junior hiring share as agent use expands

Anthropic logo Image: Primary
Anthropic reports that junior employees' share of its technical hires fell from 27% to 9% since early 2025 as AI agents took on more work. Its internal employment study draws on company records and 17 employee interviews; technical hiring continued growing in absolute terms. The company says engineers' code commits reached 5x their velocity six months earlier, while lawyers processed more contracts and salespeople closed more deals. Human attention became a bottleneck for reviewing agent output. The study cautions that adoption was not random and that more code does not necessarily mean better code or business impact.
