xAI retires Grok transcription 1.0 and redirects requests to 2.0

xAI retires Grok transcription 1.0 and redirects requests to 2.0 Image: Primary
xAI discontinued grok-voice-transcribe-1.0 on October 2 and automatically redirected requests using that model name to grok-voice-transcribe-2.0, according to an account published on note. Version 2.0 became available on September 17; the new change replaces the underlying model for existing API calls without requiring code changes. The account cites xAI release notes describing higher accuracy at unchanged prices: $0.10 per hour for file transcription through REST and $0.20 per hour for streaming. Transcription changes can carry into summaries, speaker assignments and task extraction. The documentation reviewed offered no comparison values or measurement conditions for Japanese meeting audio.
