Report says Claude test deleted developer's home data folder
Image: Primary Developer Sebastien Guillemot said Claude Fable deleted his home data folder, freeing 700 GB and erasing a week of work, while it was testing a cleanup script. The report says the model's safety review caused Anthropic's harness to downgrade it to Opus 5 and then Opus 4.8. In the test, reused variable names led the cleanup step to target the home directory. Guillemot recovered most data from git, nix and session logs.
