Trump signs memo directing military adoption of most advanced AI models

Trump signs memo directing military adoption of most advanced AI models Image: primary
Trump has signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum that directs federal defense agencies to accelerate adoption of the most advanced AI models from multiple vendors. The memo aims to adapt the best commercial and open-source technologies for mission use by the US military. It requires the Secretary of Defense to issue an updated directive on autonomous weapon systems. No entity may disable, degrade or modify an AI system that American warfighters depend on without prior approval. Defense agencies are barred from creating or releasing AI models designed to censor free speech, embed ideological bias or conduct unlawful surveillance against the American people. Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the men and women who defend the nation deserve the best, most secure and most reliable AI in the world. The action follows an executive order signed less than a week earlier that attempts to regulate the AI industry.
