EU publishes AI quality management standard carrying presumption of conformity

The European Commission has published EN 18286:2026 through Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2274, giving providers of high-risk AI systems a presumption of conformity with the AI Act's Article 17 requirements covered by the standard. Developed by CEN and CENELEC, the standard turns those requirements into a quality management system built around the AI system lifecycle. Providers can integrate it into existing management systems, including those used in regulated sectors, or use it to build their first system. The presumption covers quality management requirements under Article 17. Requirements for high-risk AI systems are due to apply in December 2027 / August 2028.
