India reports ₹1 trillion in proposed semiconductor investments

Companies propose Rs1 lakh crore semiconductor investments under Semicon 2.0: Vaishnaw Image: Primary
Companies have proposed about ₹1 trillion, or ₹1 lakh crore, in investments under India's Semicon 2.0 program, Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The projects are expected over the next two to three years and still require company board and shareholder approvals. The proposals cover chipmaking equipment, materials, gases, chemicals, packaging and related manufacturing. The government is withholding company names until the investments are finalized. Approved in July, Semicon 2.0 has a budget of ₹1.275 trillion and extends support beyond chip factories to design, equipment, research and workforce development. The proposed company investments are distinct from that government budget.
