Pentagon technology chief backs export controls to compel AI lab cooperation

Pentagon technology chief backs export controls to compel AI lab cooperation Image: Primary
Pentagon technology chief Emil Michael said the US government can use export controls against AI companies that do not cooperate with it, in an interview with The Information reported by The Next Web. He said Anthropic came under export controls within two hours after refusing to withdraw a model the government found had been jailbroken. Michael, a vice chair of the White House's Super Intelligence Force, said its work will produce an incident response framework, plans to harden critical infrastructure and a review of existing AI laws. He also said renewed Pentagon work with Anthropic depends on changes to its approach to model control.
