Developer shares tools for AI-assisted Linux driver development

comparison of two scanner drivers on same negative- Image: Primary
A developer writing on GNOME Blogs has shared hw-harness, a prototype toolkit for helping AI coding agents develop Linux hardware drivers by comparing device behavior under Windows and Linux. The author reports using bespoke predecessor scripts to build a scanner driver and improve a ThinkPad camera. For USB devices, the toolkit runs the vendor's Windows driver in a virtual machine, captures traffic on the Linux host and compares it with Linux driver traffic to identify differences. Internal cameras instead require Windows configuration data and device inspection. The shared toolkit generalizes the earlier scripts; the author did not use it in its published form for those projects.
