Anthropic reports faster code output alongside fewer junior technical hires

Anthropic reports faster code output alongside fewer junior technical hires Image: Primary
Anthropic reported that code commits per engineer became 5 times faster than six months earlier, while junior staff's share of technical hires fell from 27% to 9%. Its October 16 research report draws on internal employment and usage records, surveys and interviews with 17 employees. Work devoted to directing and managing AI rose from 10% to 22% of sessions, and median meeting time increased by 20% over a year. The company compared engineers who began using agents with those who had not, but adoption was not random. Anthropic cautioned that more code does not necessarily mean better code or greater business impact.
